ARRRRRRR

Training was going well getting ready to step up the speed and the dreaded lurgie hits. With all this strange weather and school going back there is plenty new bugs going around.

I was due to go to Melbourne for the SHQ Cerebeus Race on the Wednesday to hang with the SHQ Crew and explore the Peninsula and maybe get to Bells for a look - but after a coughing fit and having a bit of blood come up I had to postpone the flight and get to the Doctor for tests. Thankfully results come back clear but it was a chest infection and around of antibiotics and unfortunately no racing - ARRRRR

Still I managed to board the plane on Friday and head down to Melbourne to support the SHQ Crew and check out the SUP Scene down there.

Saturday the Ever youthful DJ picked me up boards loaded and we headed to Sorento for the Sorento to Portsea Fundraiser. On arrival I was stoked to see Jimmie ( Jamie Mitchell) and Jacko (Paul Jackson) were there also checking out the Vic SUP Scene.

The Day down Sorento was eye opening with the highlight at the Portsea pup seeing all the City folk dressed tot he nines for an arvo at the pub.

Results wise - Big Wave Dave (Dave Hunt) got the Win all the hard work he does deserves. With the crazy things that happen only in Races Dave managed to navigate his way to victory.

The SHQ Cerebeus Race.

I woke to a very cool Melbourne morning with a moderate south wind which felt like it was coming off the Antarctic, so with typical QLD gusto donned my boardies, thongs and hoodie and heading down to the SHQ Kiosk.

I have the pleasure of meeting plenty of the first time racers who were as enthusiastic as a puppy with a new tennis ball it was great to see and reminds me why this sport of SUP is so special.

It seem a wee bit more intense today as Jamie would race and all the crew were keen to measure themselves against the best in the business.

The start of the race saw the locals take the inside while Jamie and Jacko choose the outside line hoping to surf down to the turning can. Whilst the locals maybe had an advantage on distance traveled Jamie & Jacko class shone through getting to the can 1st and when they got a lead you can guarantee there not going to give it up.

With the leg home being the faster run (slightly down wind) Jamie opened up a comfortable gap and restored balance to the SUP world and back to QLD - HAHAHAHA

Most impressive was that Jamie and Jacko were on 14' with the rest on 17 - 18' boards. No disrespect hut it was an advantage on longer boards so for Jamie to pull a gap shows his class.

The Event was a success with all who competed downing a massive smile and just stoked to have had an opportunity to get on the water together.

There was a small break before going over to the Flat water for a clinic and Jnr racing. It was great to see so many groms having a ball and racing hard - I wish my boy was here as he enjoys racing other kids on the SUPS. What an opportunity for everyone who came to the clinic with Jamie, Jacko & Myself all there to pass on our opinions and ideas on SUP to all who attended.

Its on at the MAD COW.
We managed to sneak away with all the SUP VIC Crew & SHQ guys for a couple of cold ones and talk story. Fortunately or unfortunately I was stuck on the H2O wiht the chest infection still in charge of my body and making it feel like i'd just been run over. The bonus was I got to see Jamie in fine form having a couple with the guys and hold the conversation. Was great to see all the guys sitting and listening like there lives depended on it. Most people would give there left Nut for an opportunity to listen to Jamie that guy has got plenty stories hopefully on day we may see a bio on him.

With all said and done I think SUP Vic and the team down there are a state to watch with plenty things heading in a exciting direction.

Massive Thank you to Mike, Luke & Paul and the crew from SHQ, SUP Vic another enjoyable weekend down in Victoria.

Also a special thank you to DJ for everything over the weekend your a legend MATE.
