Just another day in Paradise

With the trip down south to Sydney imminent I decided to take a day and just go surf. With a crazy week behind me with a house move and a trip down to Kingie I was excited to just get away. Hayden from Stand up Paddle Surf called me this morning all fired up frothing to get up the beach so it was pac a lunch get some H2O and head to the Ferry. Mark from Wetfoot Photography tagged along to document what went down.

With a ESE swell of 2m+ we were hoping to score some pumping waves and while it was not quite up to size the quality was there and we scored a memorable session.

As the day passed by we traded waves with the fortunate few who managed to escape the riggers of everyday life and go to what I can safely say one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Was an epic session with the boys managing 6 hrs straight with a 5 min hydration stop so you can safely assume I am looking forward to my pillow to night.

Here are a couple of pics of the session Wetfoot Photography.

The Coreban Free Rider Molokai Team

There initially were no plans to go to Hawaii this year just hopes but no plan, that was at least until I met Paul Jones (Jonesy).

We got talking and Jonesy mentioned that he had want ed to maybe do a paddle in Hawaii and well to cut a long story short we are now locked in and have started the long journey of logistical nightmare.
Jonesy & Me at NFOS

Fortunately for me Jonesy is some sort of fundraising, sponsor finding machine with plenty of local business jumping on board.

One of the most exciting for me is Ailstar From Lavery Chiropractic

The decision to GO!

We always want to go to the islands - the home of our Ocean sport and the place we yearn for all year long, however it does not make the decision to go any easier. There are so many things to consider from finances to the commitment to training and for me these days the effect it will have on my young family.

But once the decision to go is made it's a realisation that there is a long road of training ahead but hopefully the pot of gold is at the end of the Rainbow Islands of Hawaii.

Laguna Bay SUP Race 2011

If you missed out this year plan a date for next year. This would have been one of the most exciting races we have had in Australia with TOP SUP Mens & Ladies taking part in the Laguna Bay SUP Race - as part of the Noosa Festival of Surfing 2011.

With the NFOS in its 20th year what better way to mark our SUP dominance on the long run Long board evert.

Below are a couple of shots from the days event. A big Thanks for Moy from Frangipani Dreams for setting up a drink station with her Frangipani Dream girls. A much needed station at the start of the run leg.

Fangipani Dreams Giving Hope Incorporated delivers Christmas hampers in an expression of unconditional love to the families in the Sunshine Coast community, Blessing people from all walks of life. The elderly, the lonely, people with terminal illnesses, or those experiencing financial and personal hardships. The purpose of this generosity is also to remind us as humans that life isn't just about us. The association has recently expanded it's service to the community by assisting with the fulfillment of a life-long dream or wish for terminally-ill and disadvantaged patients, irrespective of their age.

If you are down on the beach over the week donate to this great cause!

Setting the Buoys for the course. The Laguna Bay SUP Race was set up by Tully St John, Woogie Marsh and Paul Jones. After a few trial runs the course was set to a basic M shape course. Bring the Paddlers close to shore on there 2nd turn. Making for Great viewing and very exciting racing.
Heading into the first turn
Water Patrol Captain Billy Moore talking with Ladies Winner Kirsty Holmes and Over 45 Mens Winner Danny Sheard.

I would say after a great turn out and great race we will see more of these kinds of races in Australia.

There is already plans in place for a Triple Crown Short Course SUP Race run by some of the major Brands in Australia.

Say turned for more info.
